See more details about the process

1. How long does a photo session for 30 dishes take?

It is challenging to estimate the exact time required for a session, as it depends on many factors, such as the visual quality desired and the complexity of the dishes. For instance, there have been occasions when I've spent over 4 hours photographing just 5 demanding dishes. This is because finding the perfect angle, adjusting the right lighting, and achieving the desired artistic expression take time and care.

For this reason, it is difficult to predict how long it might take to photograph 30 dishes. Additionally, I don't recommend photographing more than 15 dishes in a single session. It's important to remember that the process is not just about taking pictures; it also involves preparing the dishes, which can be either quick or slow depending on the situation.

This work isn't simply "point and shoot" like using a mobile phone. From setting up the equipment—which can take around 45 minutes—to making the necessary technical and artistic adjustments for each shot, every detail is crucial to ensure a professional, high-quality result.

My approach always prioritizes visual quality because I know that well-executed images are an investment that will showcase the best of your cuisine.

2. Do you deliver photos ready for delivery platforms or social media?

I deliver photos in the format and adapted to the platform you need. I work with cameras over 61 MP, and for more advanced projects, I use medium format cameras with resolutions exceeding 100 MP. These cameras produce extremely high-quality files, but they are also very large, making them unsuitable for direct upload to a website as they would significantly slow down loading times.

During post-production, I optimize each file to perfectly suit the platform where your gastronomic products will be displayed. Whether it's for social media, food delivery platforms, websites, or printed materials, I ensure that the images not only maintain their visual quality but also meet specific technical requirements, guaranteeing both attractive design and efficient functionality.

3. What do I need to prepare before the session?

To achieve the best results in your photo session, it's important to consider the following:

  • No customers present: I recommend scheduling the session during times when the restaurant is not serving customers. This allows for a calm environment and ensures enough time can be dedicated to each dish without interruptions.
  • Collaboration: It's crucial to have the restaurant staff available to prepare the dishes and provide logistical support during the session. Good coordination ensures everything flows efficiently.
  • Workspaces: Arrange for well-lit areas or spaces where light can be controlled to ensure high-quality shots. If possible, designate an additional space for setting up the photography equipment.
  • Estimated time: The session's duration will depend on the number of dishes and spaces to be photographed. Keep in mind that each shot requires specific adjustments to highlight the details of every dish.
  • Point of contact: It's advisable to assign someone from the restaurant as the coordinator during the session. This person will facilitate communication, address any questions, and assist with logistical needs.

In my work as a food photographer, I pay attention to every detail to highlight the value and flavor of each dish, creating images that truly reflect the quality of your cuisine. My food photography process is designed to be clear, straightforward, and tailored to each client's needs.

1. Initial Contact

The process begins either by filling out the project request form on my website or with an initial phone conversation. At this stage, I aim to understand your specific needs: the type of project, the visual style you're looking for, the type of restaurant, your target audience, and the channels where the photos will be published (menus, social media, website, etc.).

2. Personalized Proposal
With the collected information, I prepare a detailed proposal that outlines the session's characteristics: duration, the number of dishes to photograph, lighting style, and any special requirements. I also specify delivery times and pricing.

3. Planning and Preparation
Once the proposal is approved, we work together to coordinate the details for the session day. This includes confirming the location of the shoot (it can be in my studio or your venue), defining which dishes will be photographed, and preparing a work plan to optimize time.

4. The Photo Shoot
During the session, I ensure every dish is presented with precision and appeal. I use high-resolution equipment and calibrated lighting to achieve flawless images. Clients can also review the photos in real-time on my PC or a connected device to approve them before moving on to the next dish. This guarantees satisfaction with the results.

5. Post-Production
After the session, I dedicate time to editing and retouching the images to ensure each photo reflects the best of your gastronomy. The editing process includes adjustments to color, contrast, and any necessary details to ensure the images look professional and appetizing.

6. Final Delivery
The photographs are delivered via a digital cloud or physical drive, in high resolution and in the formats you need for your projects. I also ensure that the images are optimized for use across different platforms, such as social media, websites, or printed materials.

The comparison between these two images demonstrates how the tools you use directly affect the quality of your brand's visual content. Both photos showcase the same dish: a salmon tataki. However, the first was taken with an iPhone 15, a high-end smartphone, while the second was captured with professional equipment: a Sony A7RIVa camera, a Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 lens, and Profoto B10 Plus lights.

At first glance, the photo taken with the iPhone looks attractive but lacks the precision and visual impact of the professional image. The second photo highlights textures, vibrant colors, and details thanks to the total control over lighting, composition, and specialized equipment. These factors not only elevate the product's presentation but also directly influence consumer perception:

  • Realistic colors and textures: In the professional image, the salmon appears more appetizing thanks to precise color balance, avoiding dull or oversaturated tones. Textures, such as the shimmer of the ice or the softness of the salmon, are more clearly perceived, creating a stronger emotional connection with the viewer.
  • Attention to detail: Calibrated lighting and high-resolution optics emphasize subtle details, like the veins in the decorative flowers and the freshness of the seafood. This conveys a sense of quality that customers expect when choosing a product.
  • Background and composition: The choice of a warm wooden background in the professional image complements the dish's colors, whereas the metallic background in the iPhone photo distracts from the main subject.
  • Impact on purchasing decisions: A customer chooses with their eyes before tasting a product. A professional image builds trust and evokes a desire to buy by conveying care and professionalism—two attributes consumers associate with superior quality.

While modern smartphones like the iPhone 15 are impressive tools, they are designed for versatility, not specialization. As a professional photographer, I bring the expertise, equipment, and techniques necessary to create images that not only stand out but.
